Terms of Service
Last updated: June 17, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of unjacketed.com and the Unjacketed ARC platform (“the Platform”), operated by Unjacketed (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By using the Platform in any capacity you agree to these Terms.
1. The Platform
Unjacketed provides two distinct services:
- Chapter Reviews — An editorial service where authors may submit a chapter of their work for review and potential publication on unjacketed.com.
- ARC Platform — A tool that allows indie authors to manage Advance Reader Copy (ARC) campaigns, recruit readers, and track reviews via a WordPress plugin connected to our API.
2. Chapter Review Submissions
Eligibility. Any author may submit a chapter for consideration. We generally do not review sequels or additional books in a series.
No guarantee of publication. Submission does not guarantee that your work will be reviewed or featured. We review submissions at our sole discretion and are under no obligation to publish a review or provide feedback.
Your content. By submitting a chapter, cover art, and related materials, you represent that you own the rights to that content or have authorization to submit it. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to display the submitted content on unjacketed.com for editorial purposes. You retain ownership of your work.
No compensation. Chapter reviews are published at no charge to the author and we do not pay authors for submissions.
3. ARC Platform — Authors
Eligibility. To use the ARC platform, you must install the Unjacketed ARC plugin on a self-hosted WordPress site and register for an API key.
Your responsibilities as an author:
- You must own or have the legal right to distribute the ebook you offer through your ARC campaign.
- You are responsible for the content of your campaign landing page, your email templates, and any communications sent to your readers through the plugin.
- You must comply with applicable email laws (including CAN-SPAM and GDPR as applicable) when sending emails to your readers. The plugin provides unsubscribe functionality — you must use it and honor opt-outs.
- You may not use the platform to distribute content that is illegal, defamatory, infringing, or otherwise harmful.
Your responsibilities regarding reader data. Reader data (names, email addresses, download activity) accessed through the plugin is provided to you solely for the purpose of managing your ARC campaign. You may not use it for any other purpose, sell it, or share it with third parties.
Service availability. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the API. We are not liable for missed reminder emails, failed deliveries, or other service disruptions.
4. ARC Platform — Readers
Who can sign up. You must have an Amazon account to sign up for ARC campaigns. You must be at least 13 years old.
Your commitment. By signing up for an ARC campaign you agree to:
- Download and read the ebook in good faith.
- If you are able to leave a review, to leave an honest review based on your genuine opinion. We do not require positive reviews.
No obligation to review. We do not legally require you to post a review. However, authors may configure campaigns to exclude readers with a low signup-to-review ratio as a matter of campaign management.
Unsubscribing. You may unsubscribe from all Unjacketed ARC platform emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any reminder email. Unsubscribing removes you from future campaigns platform-wide.
Banning. Authors may ban individual readers from their campaigns based on disqualifying answers to sign-up questions. This is per-campaign and does not affect your ability to join other authors’ campaigns.
5. Prohibited Conduct
You may not:
- Use the Platform to distribute spam, malware, or illegal content.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the API.
- Create fake Amazon accounts or misrepresent your identity.
- Submit false review confirmations.
- Interfere with other users’ access to the Platform.
We reserve the right to revoke access to any installation or user at any time for violation of these Terms.
6. Intellectual Property
The Unjacketed name, logo, and website design are our property. The Unjacketed ARC WordPress plugin is licensed under the GNU General Public License v2 or later (GPL-2.0+), consistent with WordPress ecosystem standards. The source of the parent API is proprietary.
Content submitted by authors (chapter text, cover art) remains the author’s property.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Platform is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the Platform will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that any particular ARC campaign will result in reviews. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unjacketed shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to lost sales, lost reviews, or data loss. Our total liability for any claim arising from use of the Platform shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, for free users, is zero).
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the jurisdiction where Unjacketed operates.
